Our Team
Charlene Robert B.A., B.S.W., R.S.W.
FounderI am originally from Saskatoon and have a deep passion for sports, mental health, and creating peaceful, supportive environments where individuals and families can thrive. As both a sports enthusiast and a parent who enjoys watching my children play the sports they love, I understand the important connection between mental wellness, confidence, resilience, and personal growth—both on and off the field/ice.
For over 20 years, I have worked with families, youth, and children in a variety of roles, supporting individuals, couples, and families through difficult and transitional times in their lives. I am passionate about helping clients create a more peaceful journey by meeting them where they are, identifying their unique needs, and empowering them to recognize their strengths and build resilience along the way.
I obtained my Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Regina and my BA in Sociology from the University of Saskatchewan, and I currently teach at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. I am also currently completing my Master of Social Work (MSW), having finished my coursework and now writing my thesis to obtain my degree.
In addition to my clinical and educational work, I am a Mental Health First Aid Facilitator and a Level I Reiki practitioner, which further supports my holistic and compassionate approach to wellness and healing.
Education is a lifelong journey for me, and I continue to pursue training in a variety of therapeutic approaches. My practice is grounded in a strength-based, anti-oppressive approach, and I draw from modalities including Interpersonal Therapy, Narrative Therapy, CBT, DBT, and other evidence-based therapies to support clients in finding balance, healing, and lasting wellness.
Rooted in strength, growing through healing
"Just as heartwood provides the strength that allows a tree to stand tall through storms, our goal is to help you find the inner stability to navigate life’s challenges. Whether you are seeking individual healing, a deeper connection with your partner, or a more harmonious home, we are here to support your growth."
Mental Health First Aid: Empowering People to Support Those Who Need It Most
Mental health challenges can affect anyone, at any time. Just as physical first aid helps someone experiencing a medical emergency, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) provides the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, respond to, and support someone who may be experiencing a mental health concern or crisis.
At Heartwood Counselling and Therapy, we are proud to offer Mental Health First Aid training to individuals, workplaces, organizations, educators, caregivers, and community members who want to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to:
• Recognize signs and symptoms of common mental health concerns and substance use challenges
• Approach conversations about mental health with confidence and compassion
• Provide initial support until professional help or other supports are available
• Respond to mental health crises safely and effectively
• Reduce stigma and promote mental wellness in homes, workplaces, schools, and communities
This evidence-informed training equips participants with practical skills that can be applied in everyday situations. Whether you are a parent, teacher, coach, healthcare professional, employer, or community member, Mental Health First Aid can help you feel more prepared to support those around you.
By increasing mental health literacy and fostering understanding, we can create stronger, healthier, and more supportive communities.
